My Reflection: Role Playing
Our role play in the Assessment in Learning 2 subject was a memorable and enriching experience. It allowed us to explore the concepts of authentic and traditional assessments in a creative and practical way. This activity was not only educational but also enjoyable, as it required teamwork, collaboration, and critical thinking.
During the role play, our group worked together to prepare and present scenarios that highlighted the difference between authentic and traditional assessments. For the authentic assessment, we created a short role play about climate change. This scenario required us to act out real-life situations, demonstrating how students can apply their knowledge and skills to address real-world problems. It showed us that authentic assessments encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
For the traditional assessment, we designed a simple quiz to evaluate the students’ understanding. This part helped us recognize the structured and straightforward approach of traditional assessments in measuring knowledge and skills. While quizzes are helpful for checking immediate recall and understanding, we realized that they may not always capture deeper learning or the ability to apply knowledge in real-life contexts.
Working on this activity taught me the value of both types of assessments. Authentic assessments help students connect learning to real-world applications, while traditional assessments provide a way to measure foundational knowledge. It was also fulfilling to collaborate with my group as we shared ideas, divided tasks, and supported each other during the preparation and performance.
Overall, the role play was a wonderful experience that deepened my understanding of assessment methods. It showed me the importance of balancing both authentic and traditional assessments to ensure effective teaching and learning. The activity also improved my teamwork skills and boosted my confidence in presenting ideas. This experience reminded me that learning can be both fun and meaningful, especially when done in collaboration with others.
