Introduction:

The motive of the course is to understand the concept of typology in design and relationship to spatial patterns of life and living and also Material Phenomenologies. The site chosen for the field study is the historic settlement which includes social life, cultural programs, surrounding, etc. The historic settlement was studied by understanding the type of the houses, its spatial patterns, different types of material assemblies in the houses, and also on the phenomenological reading of the particular site. The study also includes concerning the neighborhood, the evolution of the houses for their earlier stage, different types of services and people from the particular community and their occupations.

The following concepts are used for studying the historic settlements :

‘Typology’ The particular classification of the building and its commonality, basically studying the evolution and changes the pattern of the building over years, the pattern of living.

‘Spatial Pattern’ is the two-dimensional design, which is also interpreted or regarded at the level of human sight.

Material Assemblies were studied to understand the different types of material used for the particular building types with scales, the proportion of the building, different types of textures, colors, abilities of reflection, weight, mass, etc.

Talking about the field studied, to understand the settlements through morphology drawings with spatial patterns and material assemblies. Developing built-form articulations into specific material and technical articulations, and enhancing the series of drawings.
