Recently I have sent home with your students an Acceptable Use Policy, or AUP. An AUP is at its center an agreement between people to follow a set of rules. It may seem like something that is very formal, but that isn’t always the case. In fact, I would like to recommend that you develop one at home! It doesn’t have to be complicated or incredibly detailed, but developing one will allow your child to become more accustomed to following rules and directions in a way that will benefit them as they continue through this year and then their high school careers.
This task may seem daunting at first, but I have put together a template to help you in developing an AUP for your home. The document is available on my website, and it includes a section for the rules you need to establish and the consequences if they are broken (and these can be changed at any time!). The hardest part will be remembering these rules and holding yourself and your child(ren) accountable for following them, but I know you can do it! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me at any time, and I will do my best to get back to you.
