(Clarification statement: Mohs scale should be studied at this level. Cleavage, streak and the classification of rocks as sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic are studied in sixth grade.)
I can identify that rocks are composed of 2 or more minerals. I can identify physical attributes of rocks (color, texture, luster, and hardness). I can explain the Mohs scale used to test mineral hardness. I can use the Mohs scale to determine the hardness of minerals. I can ask questions about physical attributes of rocks. I can ask questions about physical attributes of rocks using the Mohs scale and other sources of data to classify rocks.I can use either the Mohs scale or other sources of data (may be student generated) to classify rocks by their physical attributes.
