When Pat Immel, 61, formed his rock band two years ago, his goal was to be Maryville famous; but his true fame may come from being a center for a community who need the help of a theater and tech nerd, and devoted Green Bay Packers fan.
After spending years touring with bands and figuring out his life’s path, Pat discovered his love of theater during a college class. Deciding he wanted to teach and help others, he pursued graduate school, then taught technical theater for 27 years at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.
Now retired, Pat spends his time involved in the community through odd jobs, running trivia at the pub, creating art for local businesses, helping the elderly with technology and practicing with his band. The band, Crazy Professor Hair, consists of other retired and current faculty from the university. During the day he works at the local print shop, cutting paper and going on deliveries, chatting with strangers and old friends. In the basement of the print shop is his band’s practice space, where he spends time playing the bass guitar, tinkering with band equipment and maintaining a place for his and his friends’ musical passion.
