Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Students are asked to journal about their experience throughout the trip. Journaling provides students an opportunity to reflect and make sense of their surroundings and experience away from home and the classroom. This is a meditative, independent and personal practice. Adults on the trip are encouraged to participate.
