Happy Fathers Day!
Origins
I was born in Bellevue, WA. I lived in Renton, WA until I went away to college at BYU. I lived in Provo for 4 years and then moved back to Renton. A couple of years later, I accepted a job at the UofU. I moved in with a friend and her husband and kiddo, in West Valley City, UT for a few weeks. Then I moved to SLC where I lived in 5 houses over the next 4 years. Then I moved back in with my friend, her husband, and now 3 kids, where they now lived in the Millcreek area. The next year Scott and I married and moved to a house in the Liberty Wells neighborhood of SLC. A year and a half later, we bought our house, from my aunt, here in West Jordan. We’ve been in this house for nearly 13 years.
On the Work Front
Currently I’m a SAHM.
Before my youngest, Cason, was born, I was a Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Technician at the UofU. (I performed testing to identify antibodies and determine DNA typing to match solid organ and bone marrow transplant donors and recipients.)
Growing up, I wanted to be a kidney transplant surgeon. I may not have become a surgeon, but I was definitely part of the team that made kidney transplants possible in Utah.
Interests and Hobbies
I love to read, listen to music, bake, build with LEGO, and Zumba.
Something Unique
As a teenager, I showed horses in 4-H. I even did some barrel racing. (No, I’m not very good at it, but it was a lot of fun.) I learned a lot of useful skills in 4-H and I’m very glad I had that opportunity.
In my early 20s, I raced in a couple of sprint triathlons.
I have a degree in Animal Science with a veterinary nursing emphasis from BYU. I also minored in violin.
Favorite Tradition
My older sister served a mission in Leeds, England. Since she returned from her mission, my family has celebrated Boxing Day with a traditional English Christmas meal. We all wear the crowns from our Christmas crackers through the meal. We have roast and Yorkshire puddings, at least 2 types of potatoes, lots of cooked veg, and trifle for dessert.
Challenging Times
Being a mom. I love my boys with my whole heart! I am so incredibly blessed to be their Momma. Parenting is hard work. Parenting kids with extra needs, often feels like impossible work.
Favorite Memory
When my oldest, Camden, was around 2 yrs old, he exclaimed, “you’re the best mom in the whole university!” (Pretty sure he meant “universe”, but I’ll take it.)
One Last Thing
I tend to be shy, until I get to know you. Once I’m comfortable with you, I don’t really hold back. Also, By age 30, I had been to 30 temples. Including Tokyo, Japan and Hamilton, New Zealand.
