Kimi Kubojiri (she/her)
I am currently an academic artist, growing my skills and in the process finding my story in my art. The pieces I create now are coursework that I use to search for the concept, of "why" behind my art. However, I woudl like to use my art for activism. I want my body of work, primarily drawings and paintings, to showcase themes of sustainability and feminism. Sustainability and feminism are two concepts I am currently exploring as they are both major concerns I have. Art brings people together, and I want to use this connectivity to reach people who might not hear my message otherwise. Right now, my body of work is part of the foundation to the art I will create in the future.
There are peices of "me" behind every completed work I have. From my love of sea creatures, mythology and fiction, to my appreciation of the human form. I use the materials I built a familiarity with as a child, chiefly soft pastels and charcoal, to allow me the freedom to explore new compositions and skills. Creativity and creating art has always been a tool I ahve used to connect with others and express my individuality. I am from a family of artists. I am surrounded by artist friends. I am part of a building community of feminist artists. My art is mine, but my art is also my mother encouraging me. My art is course work, but my art is also gifts to cherished friends.
