How Educators can Facilitate Collaboration with Classcraft
In using Classcraft, educators can facilitate collaboration through the use of Classcraft's Quest feature.
Through this feature, educators are able to design a variety of engaging activities that encourage students to collaborate at a meaningful level with their classmates. All five elements of the DDD approach (Jahnke, 2017) can be emphasized through this feature. Classcraft Quests begin with a "Quest Introduction", here educators can state their teaching goals clearly, giving students access to them from the beginning. This "Introduction" aspect allows for educators to tie existing Google Classroom assignments to the Quest as a "Learning Objective". Alternatively, educators are able to create their own objectives within the Quest interface, attaching rubrics, achievements, and rewards all through the back-end of the same interface. The customization available in Classcraft Quests allow for learning activities that are active, authentic, constructive, intentional, and collaborative. This means educators are able to easily design activities in which students can collaborate together to create a unique creation that each student can be proud of. Through this customization, educators are able to make their learning activities as meaningful as possible and can edit them at any time. Classcraft Quests allow educators to directly embed or link any Google Classroom assignment, Google Forms assessment, or external link, all through this same interface. One major advantage to this feature is the ability to allow groups to progress through the different tasks in a quest at their own pace. With this same customization, educators are able to play many roles, from designer to expert, to guide. Similarly, students are able to play many roles as well. With the ability for groups to progress through tasks at their own pace, student autonomy is emphasized and each student is able to take on a role in which they can have ownership of their own contribution to the group's creation.
