“In order for students to learn meaningfully, they must be willfully engaged in a meaningful task. In order for meaningful learning to occur, the task that students pursue should engage active, constructive, intentional, authentic, and cooperative activities” (Howland, et al., 2012). The purpose of using web-based technologies to support learning is to foster meaningful learning by engaging the students in activities that meet the characteristics outlined by Howland, et al (2012). In today’s world, the use of technology in the classroom is of extreme importance. Teachers need to have the appropriate tools (hardware and software) to adequately engage their students. “The future classroom will be organized especially around interaction and cross-actions. Teachers will create designs for learning that enable cross-actions conducted by students in groups, sometimes at the same location and sometimes in different places and spaces, to solve a problem in collaboration” (Jahnke, 2016).
Web-based technologies are internet applications that can be used in an interactive way. Web-based technologies have the potential to be used in a variety of formats. This website focuses on the use of web-based technologies in education and using the technologies to promote student collaboration.
