Oral Health is a course that trains mid-level oral health care practitioners who provide preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative oral health care in line with Universal Health Care [UHC]. Example of these procedures includes extraction, scaling, masking, filling, teeth bleaching and sealing fissures and pits. COHOs are registered and regulated under Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council KMPDC [Cap 253, Laws of Kenya]
DIRECT ENTRY
KCSE mean grade of C+ or it equivalent and C+ in mathematics or physics or physical sciences, Chemistry or Biology and English/ Kiswahili.
FOR UPGRADING.
Diploma in community oral health from an institution recognized by Mount Kenya University senate and have undergone 1 year mandatory internship and at least 1 year experience.
KCSE mean of grade C plain or its equivalent and C in English or Kiswahili, biological sciences or Biology and C- in any of the following subjects; mathematics, physics, chemistry, agriculture and general sciences
Provide curative and rehabilitative dental care such as extraction, scaling, bleaching, filling etc.
offer leadership in oral health care planning and management
carry out community diagnosis especially in areas they are working.
initiate and conduct oral health education in the community.
co-ordinate with the dentist in taking care of community's oral heath need.

participate in relevant health care program in areas they are working.
The following are possible places where an Oral Health officer can work or potential businesses they can venture into:
A dental clinic within a public/government hospital.
A dental clinic in a private hospital.
Employed in a private-owned dental clinic.
self-employment by starting your own dental clinic.
Employed by any dental material supply company as a sales or marketing personnel.
Venture into the business of supplying dental materials to dental facilities and institutions.
