RE-CERTIFICATION
(NOT LAPSED / EXPIRED)
DO NOT EVER LET YOUR CERTIFICATIONS LAPSE! SET REMINDERS ON YOUR PHONE / CALENDAR!
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO TRACK DATES.
Recertification of NREMT Licensure Not required if you plan on staying in California. Only if you plan on moving.
1. Will be completed every 2 years
a. You will need a 40 hours Continuing Education.
(28 Hours Offered via EMGM 350 at Miramar College Schedule HERE)
b. Current BLS Provider card.

CA State/County Re-Certification Info
In the state of California, state and county re-certification will be completed ALL through the county you are working in.
1. You must recertify every 2 years.
a. Need a 24-hour refresher course + complete skills testing.
(ALL offered via EMGM 350 at Miramar college Schedule HERE)
b. Current BLS CPR card.

For American Heart Association and American Red Cross certifications
(Which are the two entities agencies mostly require.):
Re-certification is completed every 2 years
San Diego Miramar College offers an AHA BLS Provider Course. (EMGM 50A, 0.1 unit)

You will have to visit the specific state EMS Agency for further details: NREMT List of State Agencies
LAPSED EMT CERTIFICATION
(Don't work 1 day while expired! You could be in trouble for working without a license and could lose your job!)
If your EMT Certification expires
State of California Guidelines:
a. Less than 6 months expired: you will need a 24-hour recert class + skills testing.
b. Between 6 months - 1 year expired: you will need 24-hour recert class + 12 hours of continuing education hours + skills testing.
c. More than 1 year expired: 24-hour recert class + 24-hour continuing education hours + skills testing.
