Receptive: Notice which senses are being stimulated and the qualities of the stimuli. Notice the stimuli you respond to and those which you ignore.
Active: Pay attention to a the stimuli from a particular sense (hearing, vision, touch, taste, smell, temperature, etc.) or seek particular sensations (e.g. look for particular colours, listen for particular sounds, etc.).
