"I used a physical toolkit from a childline activity with different grounding items and techniques and funny moments and photos with my friends. it reminded me why i should keep going" .
What were you hoping or expecting the self-help materials would help you with?
"Feel more grounded and less numb"
What helped or didn’t help you actually use or stick with the material?- think what was going on for you at the time, how it was written, how it looks, how it made you feel.
"Memories helped, and grounding items. i also added funny distractions and my favourite songs and events, like a "best of" my life".
⚠️ Trigger warning- Reference to sexual assault/ rape below ⚠️
Why did you choose that mental health self-help material?
"I chose those mental health self-help materials because they were a mix of getting to know my body better after sexual assault and rape, the expected reactions I would have, and how to "tackle" them, or better worded - how to ground myself when I experience triggers, or if i feel low".
What were you hoping or expecting the self-help materials would help you with?
"I was hoping that the self-help materials would help me to manage my emotions/feelings whilst getting triggered, and I wanted to be able to reconnect with my body - a bond which was broken for too long. Your bond with your body never should be broken, i think its important everyone has a connection with their body, because once you learn the right way to love yourself, everything else will naturally fall into place. Along with the resources I mentioned, and therapy, i've gotten so far, and i'm so proud".
Did you feel the self-help made a difference to you or change anything for you? If so in what way?
"Yes, the self-help helped me with grounding techniques, it helped me with feeling seen and not so lonely, as well as feeling heard and not the only one with this kind of struggle".
All of these links made a difference for me (including the ones previously mentioned), they made me feel less alone, more heard, and I could understand myself better too".
