RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

Restorative Justice is an approach, mindset, and flexible set of practices that put relationships, connection, and justice at the heart of a community. In the Milton Public Schools, we use the restorative justice circle process to proactively build a culture of inclusion and belonging.

We are in the process of training staff and students across the district to lead circles about topics such as how to manage conflict, cope with change, and repair after harm comes up. We also have developed new policies and procedures that use restorative approaches to resolve discipline issues.

This shift from traditional, punitive consequences such as suspension to restorative responses gives students the tools to hold themselves accountable after they make mistakes and work toward repair with the school community.
