Students from Mike Hess' Karate Studio fared well at the Fight Against Muscular Dystrophy Open Karate Tournament last Saturday in Augusta.
Winners were as follows: L.J. Sampson, fourth place (fight) in men's green belt; Mike Raffield, first place (fight) in men's orange belt; Roger Gray, third place (kids' forms) in white-blue belt; Jeff Mastromonico, third place (fight) and first place (fight, forms) in women's white-blue belt; Terry Nolan, third place (fight) and second place (forms) in women's white-blue; and Tracy Mills, third place (forms) in junior division.
Also, Bruce Stuart, fourth place (fight) in men's white-blue; David Jollie, first place (forms) and fourth place (fight) in men's white-blue; Marsha Tumblin, first place (fight, forms, men's weapons division) in women's black belt; John Gordon, second place (fight) in men's black belt middleweight; Hank McCullough, first place (forms) in green belt; and Mike Hess, first place (fight, forms, breaking) in men's black belt middleweight.
ATLANTA - Christ Wollam and Mike Raffield, both students at Mike Hess Karate Studio, collected trophies at the "Battle of Atlanta" last Saturday. Wollam won first place in Kata Brown Belt and second in fighting. Raffield finished fifth in orange-blue belt.
