Splitgate
Splitgate’s use of colour in it’s arenas make each stage unique and memorable. The use of a shade of blue that is used no where else in the game but for portal walls, for instance, makes it easier to identify places the player can portal.
Take the stage Impact for instance. In this map, a tech base has been overrun by an alien plant. The plant itself uses purple, as purple gives a sense of mystery and power, and causes the surrounding environment to have a purple hue, making it appear as if it controls the room somehow, adding to the mystery of the origin of this plant. The tech base itself uses oranges and blues, making it seem clean and efficient, juxtaposing the other use of colour in the map with it’s warm familiarity.
Texturing
I made some textures for the ground, tree trunk and leaves in a small scene.
I then created a small sample scene in unity of a tree on some ground. I did this by scaling a cube appropriately to create a ground base, used a cylinder for the tree trunk and a sphere for the leaves. I added the texture by clicking and dragging the imported image onto the respective shapes. I also added a metallic finish to the leaves material to make it look abstract.
