Shai received her B.Sc. (2005 –2008) from the School of Marine Sciences in Michmoret and proceeded to receive her M.Sc. (2008–2011) and Ph.D. (2011–2016) from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev while situated in the Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat. Her research involved studying ecology, ecophysiology, symbiosis, and metabolism of foraminifera in the field and in the laboratory. In 2018 she joined the Department of Marine Geosciences in the University of Haifa as a post-doc, and in 2019 departed for a post-doc fellowship in the University of Angers, France. Upon returning from France, she rejoined the Department of Marine Geosciences, and is currently conducting her research in Eilat in collaboration with Dr. Beverly Goodman-Tchernov and Dr. Timor Katz.
Post-doc (2018, 2020-2022), Department of Marine Geosciences, University of Haifa, Haifa, Israel
Post-doc (2019), University of Angers, Angers, France
Ph.D. in Geological and Environmental Sciences (2011-2016), Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Be’er Sheva, Israel
M.Sc. in Life Sciences (2008-2011), Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Be’er Sheva, Israel
B.Sc. in Marine Sciences (2005-2008), Ruppin School of Marine Sciences, Michmoret, Israel
Shai is leading the department’s micropaleontology research component of the National Geographic Pristine Seas project, which aims to expand marine protected areas in some of the world’s most sensitive, pristine regions. The research uses combined ecological and geochemical methods to provide baseline foraminiferal information for unexplored regions, and to uncover large-scale biodiversity and biogeography patterns and anthropogenic related trace elements distribution.
