Originally from New Orleans, U.S.A., Charles’ interests growing up included hiking, camping, rock/fossil hunting, and traveling whenever and wherever possible. All of this contributed to his decision to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Geology (with a minor in Anthropology) at Louisiana State University (2018). Before his senior year, he completed a geological mapping field camp through the University of St. Andrews, during which he mapped stretches of the Scottish coastline. During his undergraduate years, he also picked up two new hobbies - rock climbing and scuba diving - which contributed to his decision to apply to the University of Haifa’s Marine Geoscience master’s program.
M.Sc. in Marine Geosciences (2018-2022), University of Haifa, Haifa, Israel
B.Sc. in Geology with a Minor in Anthropology (2014-2018), Louisiana State University, Louisiana, USA

Charles' master’s project involves a sedimentological approach to identify onshore tsunami deposits from the eighth century at Caesarea Maritima, Israel. A comparative study of coastal and marine sediments, collected in the vicinity of the Roman harbor city of Caesarea Maritima, was carried out using various laboratory analyses, including grain size distribution, micropaleontological assemblages, and portable optically stimulated luminescence (P-OSL) dating. He presented his research online at the European Geosciences Union’s 2020 virtual conference, and in-person at the Israel Geological Society’s and American Schools of Overseas Research’s annual conferences in 2021. As of 2021, he became an AAUS-certified basic scientific diver.
