In a very low state and disheartening moments as the supercell ends up missing us by 100 miles to the west after waiting all season for a nearby supercell setup. The massive anvil looms overhead.
I find it in me to change locations to see if I can get a horizon veiw of the supercell. Expecting just a gray mass, but to my surprise, the huge silhouette of the ENTIRE supercell is visible 100 miles away with the clear westernmost anvil edges visible beyond!
Heart stopping scale of the storm becomes even more apparent when massive positively-charged anvil lightning bolts arc down to the ground. Each of these bolts were likely between 7 and 12 miles tall! I could not believe what I was seeing.
Absolutely unbelievable 7:33 pm radar reflectivity of the supercell just after the 100 mph RFD went through Manhattan, KS.
Mammatus clouds could also be seen on the underneath of the anvil even from this distance.
Massive several-mile-wide (and tall) anvil crawler discharge shoots up from below and crawls up the back of the storm into the anvil. Shortly before I jump back and shout with my hands over my head in absolute bewilderment.
