This section contains records about Service Members of the Sub Branch. Some have been provided by the members themselves, others have been put together after some research, particularly for those members no longer with us.
All members are invited to contribute something to this website by contacting the History & Heritage group via the email address below, or by speaking to Peter Randle or Paul McColl about a possible contribution or story about yourself, a relative or other members.
Peter RANDLE
Pete has been a member since 1980 and has held many positions within the organization. He has spent many years on the Committee but he has spent the longest time as the Memorabilia Officer. Originally the collecting, cataloguing and displaying of our continually-expanding collection of military Memorabilia was done largely by him, but, over recent years he has convened a small group of volunteers to help with that work.
He has written a short summary (see here) of his formal involvement in Sub Branch and Club activities, all of which contributed to him being awarded Life Membership of the Sub Branch.
Old Mates
Peter has also written a short summary of his connection to many of those on the list above. It describes some if his memories of each and how they were involved with the Club (Click Old Mates).
Among other work Pete has undertaken is the gathering together of the military and enlistment records of a number of past members of the Sub Branch who served in WW2 and later conflicts.
Past Members Service Records
The enlistment and other details of service members can be located and downloaded from the National Archives of Australia (click here). Peter has done that for many members (the last two on the list were members of Heidelberg and Ivanhoe RSLs, but they had a close connection with Montmorency RSL, largely through all three RSLs having delegates on 9 District Board – the group of Sub Branches in the northern suburbs):
Jack Brennan Jock Petrie Jack Caldwell Bob Barling Frank Paterson Ern Mackey Charlie Harris
Jim Ellwood Fred Maurer Kevin Shanhun Max Dimmack Jim Hodgson Bob Fordham Kathleen Gill (Wintle)
Fred Lasslett Fred Cullen.
Clicking on one of these names in the list below will connect to the military service details of the relevant member (scroll down the table):
NOMINAL ROLLS
In addition to the formal enlistment and service records such as those above, there are also 'virtual' plaques (officially Nominal Rolls) which the DVA produces. They display a summary of the person's military record in the form of an online 'bronze' plaque. A number of those have been downloaded from the DVA website and can be viewed on the list below (scroll down for additional names):
