ANZAC DAY & REMEMBRANCE DAY

The two principal commemorations for the RSL are ANZAC DAY and Remembrance Day. Both are extremely well attended, especially ANZAC DAY. The latter involves two functions:

(1) There is a Dawn Service at the Eltham Memorial in Main Rd; there is also a march from the local shopping strip in Were St to the RSL premises. The formal ANZAC service, including the march, takes place from 10 am to just after 11 am.

(2) There is also a smaller service held on Remembrance Day in November. In describing it as a 'smaller service', that was only in relative terms – it has become an event of such significance as to require traffic diversions and a general police presence to supervise the logistics of the proceedings!

Both events are followed by refreshments and social activities, particularly on ANZAC Day, within the club's premises. This part of the day would not have ever been the success that it was were it not for the tireless efforts of the Ladies Auxiliary who prepared countless plates of sandwiches, cooked mountains of cakes, brewed innumerable cups of tea and coffee, and generally oversaw the conduct of the hospitality throughout the club rooms on such days.
