Organizational Structure
The Committee controls the overall operation of the Sub Branch, which is an Incorporated body and a registered charity. It is therefore subject to the regulations of the Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) and the Australian Charities & Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC). It has 'tax exempt' status as long as it continues to meet the qualifying conditions.
The committee positions include President, Vice-President (two members), Secretary, Treasurer, and General Committee members. Current committee members are listed on the main MERSL website here. The Memorabilia Group provides regular reports to the Committee to keep them up to date with the activities and work of the Group.
Day-to-day operations of the MERSL are supervised by the General Manager who oversees a number of staff who have responsibilities for hospitality & catering, gaming room duties, and general bar work. There are also 'behind-the-scenes' staff members who are involved with accounts and cash, appeals support and organization, memberships and other areas.
There are a number of Honour Boards around the premises which list the names of past Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers. Pictures of those are included below (early Montmorency RSL, recent Montmorency-Eltham RSL, early Eltham RSL).
