Your job here at the Rec is more than checking out basketballs, dust mopping, route setting or officiating IM games...it's also about embracing the opportunity to engage and learn with our community. Development is one of our four departmental values, and this is one of the ways we prioritize it!
Yes! You are given 4 hours of paid development for completing the foundational courses (Bystander Intervention, Conflict Management, Quality Service, Inclusion as Awareness). Work with your supervisor to get any discrepancies in hours updated.
Overall piece of advice, talk to your direct supervisors and let them know what you have completed. For Foundational Courses in Bridge, Joyce will update our portal and your supervisors will input the hours for you. For in-person sessions, clock-in and leave a note that includes something about RDP or the session title.
Joyce will be updating the portal on a weekly basis. If you have a question about courses, your supervisors and myself have access and can tell you exactly what you’ve completed.
FAQs:
Throughout our recent sessions, some pertinent questions have arisen. I want to address these directly to ensure everyone is on the same page. Please find the following FAQs listed below:
Where can I see how many courses I’ve completed?
I will be updating the portal on a weekly basis. If you have a question about courses, your supervisors and myself have access and can tell you exactly what you’ve completed.
I still have no idea how to get a water bottle, can you help?
I will schedule office hours for water bottle hand outs. They can be found on the same Acuity link as the courses. If you can’t make any of those, email me and let’s get you your stickers!
Wait…we get stickers?
Yes! You get 1 milestone sticker per 4 courses you complete. So, when you do your 4 foundational courses, you get a water bottle and 1 sticker. After that, you can work your way to more stickers.
How many courses can I take in a semester?
As many as you want! However, you will get paid for up to 4 ongoing opportunities per year, and we require a minimum 2 Ongoing Opportunities per year, so make it happen and sign up!
