Professional Student Learning Goals and Objectives

Goal 1: Amplify my understanding of archival concepts and techniques

• Objective 1.1: Increase my knowledge of preservation and conservation techniques that are supported as best practice within the library and archive profession. (ALA 2b, SLO 2b)

• Objective 1.2: Cultivate my archival management skills and explore the development and enforcement of archival policies and procedures. (IFLA 2.1, 2.4, ALA 4c)

Goal 2: Strengthen my skills in rare books and special collections environments

• Objective 2.1: Continue to craft my understanding of best practices in handling, storing, and analyzing archival and rare book materials. (IFLA 7.7)

• Objective 2.2: Learn how to catalog rare books and become proficient at cataloging through an internship in a Special Collections department. (IFLA 4.2, ALA 5c, SLO 4a)

Goal 3: Increase my understanding and awareness of ethics in the library field

• Objective 3.1: Develop a deeper insight on ethics in archives and the best practices in managing ethical issues. (ALA 1g, SLO 6.1)

• Objective 3.2: Explore and apply my understanding of ethical considerations and guidelines in research. (ALA 7b)

Goal 4: Establish reference, research, and access skills to provide excellent user services

• Objective 4.1: Acquire and practice skills that will enhance my personal resource searching and selecting abilities and searching and selecting abilities for patrons and researchers. (ALA 6a, SLO 4b)

• Objective 4.2: Utilize knowledge on the information behaviors of diverse groups to promote accessibility and discoverability. (SLO 6c)
