Course Description
This course provides an introduction to the theory and application of information and communication technologies including hardware, software, systems analysis and the nature and functionality of networks; social, technical and organizational influences on the use and users of information technology (SLO 4, ALA 9). At the end of the course students should have learned the outline of the history and current developments in information technology, including hardware, software, and Internet-based technologies, the fundamentals of computer networks and the Internet, identified functions of and utilization of current online information tools, discuss security, privacy, and other social issues inherent in information technology, identify critical issues involved in managing and implementing information systems including technology, human, social, and organizational issues, and design and implement information technology solutions in networked environments (PLG 4).

Analysis
This was the first technological class I had ever taken, but the knowledge I have gained has helped me in my current library position and even outside of work and school. This course also gave me my first experience coding (SLO 4), which I struggled with a lot at first. It was unlike anything I have ever seen or done before and it was difficult to initially wrap my head around. Through lots of trial and error, I began to understand coding and computer languages better. I really enjoyed and felt successful in my research and analysis of AI regarding copyright laws, ethics of AI use and development, and areas where AI still falls short (ALA 1A, ALA 9B, ALA 9C).
Reflection
Reflection
I didn’t expect to enjoy coding, but since I have taken this course, I have coded personal blog and portfolio websites on my own time to improve this skill. This course taught me how much this skill can be utilized in many ways in a library career. I have used my understanding I gained in this course of hardware, software, and internet technologies to aid library patrons at my workplace experiencing computer difficulties and confusion (SLO 4). This course also helped me immensely with deepening my comprehension of database management, as this has been something I have been interested in exploring (ALA 9A). I have only worked on back-end database management before, but I have been able to utilize class teachings to improve databases for access for other patrons (PLG 4.1). I hope to use my background in this course to aid my future library career through instructing and promoting AI literacy, effective database management, and utilizing information technology (ALA 2C).
