Larry joined the Air Force on October 17. 1960 at 19 years old. He would be stationed in Crystal Springs, MS, where he met Patricia. They would marry and he would serve in St. Louis, Texas, and California.

During the summer of 1976, Larry was serving his commitment to the Reserves in Nevada when he reported a pain in his side. Mom answered the phone and was told he was being flown to California for medical attention. She flew out there and kids stayed at Aunt Kay's house. Diagnosis was luekemia. Eventually, he was transported to Columbia, MO to the VA Hospital.
