Some of the Yearbook spreads that I have overseen and worked on have been feature pieces on students and their accomplishments at Oxford High School such as our student body president and valedictorian and salutatorians. One of my most memorable pieces was my feature I did on James Meredith. Mr. Meredith came to speak to the history classes at OHS in honor of Black History Month and the sixtieth anniversary of integration at Ole Miss. Getting to capture such an impactful historical figure and listen to his story was a memory that I will never forget and appreciate for the rest of my life.
James Meredith sharing a story from his time in the Air Force with the students, teachers, and administrators of OHS. He discussed how segregation in the army made such a profound impact on his life, and it ultimately led him to enroll at Ole Miss.
Mr. Mistillis, a Mississippi Studies teacher at OHS, asks James Meredith to give advice to "the finest group of high schoolers in Lafayette County", as stated by Meredith.
