My name is Mattie Beauchamp, and I am a senior at Oxford High School. I currently serve as the Editor-In-Chief of The Flashback yearbook. I have served as the Social Media Manager since 2020 and was the Junior Editor and the Student Life and Sports Spreads Team Leader for the 2021-2022 school year. I have also taken pictures at OHS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) events that are shared on school district social media pages. My graphic design work for Oxford High School has been shared on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and has recieved 200+ likes.

Outside of Yearbook Staff, I am involved in various clubs, organizations, and athletics at OHS. I am a member of the Oxford Chargerettes Dance Team where I serve as the Social Media Chair. I am also a two-time Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Dance State Champion, a Varsity Letter Winner, and the Heisman High School Scholarship School Winner. I also serve as the President of Soles4Souls, a service club that organizes two shoe drives a year, in which every school in the Oxford School District donates shoes and clothing to be distributed to families in need across the world. I am also a Diamond Girl Captain, Student Council Representative, and a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leadership Team Member. In addition to this, I have completed over 400 service hours in the Lafayette-Oxford-University Community and in the Oxford School District.

I will be attending the University of Mississippi majoring in Journalism with an emphasis in Sports Journalism and a minor in English with the hope of one day becoming an on-field anaylst or sports writer for the Entertainment Sports Programming Network (ESPN).

Academic Excellence in Yearbook

Recommendation

Mattie Beauchamp is one of the most exceptional students I have encountered in my nine years of teaching. She is an exceptional editor and a fantastic student.

Mattie is a perceptive, sharp, quick individual and she is a natural born leader. As editor-in-chief of the yearbook, she surpassed expectations with her leadership, design acumen, and organizational skills.

Her personal strengths are as impressive as her intellectual accomplishments. She is an active, outgoing presence in class with a strong sense of character. She is just the kind of driven, engaging, and curious student who helped make our classroom a lively environment and safe place to take intellectual risks.

Mattie has demonstrated excellence in all that she puts her mind to. She is truly an amazing human being.

-Diala Chaney, Yearbook Advisor

Here, I took pictures at the first sporting event back from the COVID-19 Pandemic. Being a journalist in the time of a global pandemic was quite difficult as I had to work around cancellations, masked faces, and social distancing to create a bit of normalcy with a yearbook.

In this image, I got the opportunity to speak to eighth graders about my experience on Yearbook staff and how it has had an impact on my life in the hopes that they would want to be a part of the journalism department when they entered high school.
