Introduction

This lesson introduces kindergarten students to basic addition and subtraction within 10 through an engaging, hands-on space explorer game. Using dice, tokens, and Monopoly boards, students model real-world math problems by adding or subtracting “space gems” as they play.

Following the 5E model, each stage of the lesson—Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration, and Evaluation—builds their understanding of math concepts with interactive activities. The lesson is differentiated for diverse learning needs, with visual aids for SPED, bilingual resources for ELLs, and advanced tasks for GT students, making math fun and accessible for all.
