EXPLANATION: Students will explain how the dice told us to add or subtract and how we solved the problem?

Higher Order Questions: 

-        “How would you explain how we add or subtract gems?” 

-        “How does this game relate to real-life adding and taking away?”

-        “Where else might you add or take away items?” 

Teacher Dialouge: "You started with 6 gems and added 3. How did you find the total?"

Student Dialouge: "I counted the gems—6, 7, 8, 9."

Teacher Dialouge: "Exactly! Now, if 4 gems fall out, how did you figure out how many you had left?"

Student Dialouge: "I counted backwards—9, 8, 7, 6, 5."

Teacher Dialouge: "Great work!"
