Elaboration 

ELABORATION: Students will solve harder problems with more rolls of the dice and explain how many gems we have in total 

Higher Order Questions: 

-        “How could you collect gems faster?” 

-        “How can you tell when to add or take away gems?” 

-        “What would happen if we used a new rule, like multiplying gems?” 

Teacher Dialogue: "Now, let’s try a trickier one. You start with 7 gems, add 5, and then subtract 3. What’s the total?"

Student Dialouge: [Counts out loud] "9 gems!"

Teacher Dialouge: "Nice work! What was the hardest part?"

Student Dialouge: "The subtraction part was harder."

Teacher Dialouge: "That’s okay. You did a great job!"
