Objective:
Introduce students to counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s using the popular song Skip to My Lou. The rhythm in this song is perfect for emphasizing counting patterns.
Begin by singing Skip to My Lou as a class. The song's repetitive structure makes it easy for students to follow along.
As you sing, focus on counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Encourage students to clap or stomp on the beats to reinforce the counting pattern.
Discuss with the students how the rhythm and pattern of the song correspond to the counting sequence.
