My perspective of scholarly service activity is helping others by providing learning through ease of delivery and design. Helping others includes exchanging knowledge, skills, and task that help a person achieve a goal. I have always wanted to help others through my fitness classes and the team I lead in my job. My passion is helping others achieve their personal goals through fitness or leading my team through a new functionality for testing of our product. I present my students and teams with the skills they need to accomplish a goal. As a professional, I desire to produce effective learning and knowledge retention, making my students and team feel successful and empowered. My heart for serving anchors the human aspect of teaching people and using technology as a tool, not technology teaching.
My service competency is seen in taking on opportunities to help others learn, grow, and accomplish their personal or business goals. As a testing manager, I plan to create instructional materials for training new functionalities. I will follow the ADDIE model and create the instructional material by focusing on learner-centered instruction. I can use the same ADDIE model and learner-centered instruction to become an instructional designer, adjunct professor, and consultant. I must be able to deliver and design instructional material in each of these positions.
My goal is to help adult learners who are women and face challenges with learning technologies by developing resources they can use to ease their learning. The coursework I completed in Sam Houston State University’s ISDT program serves as a foundation for helping people with different challenges. Helping people creates a passion for service because it is the fruit of what I teach, how I lead, and what I present.
