Flexible design education "can easily shift between online and in-person learning. At its core, it means designing online components that can be used regardless of how a course is taught" (What Is Flexible Design?, 2021). Providing students with flexible resources is ever so more important now as more and more students try to overcome learning gaps. There are many ways educators can provide these flexible educational resources and they often come across them by browsing for supplemental materials. Gone are the days of using outdated textbooks, magazines, and articles. Flexible educational resources or FERs allow teachers to tailor their curriculum to meet the needs of all learners. FERs are beneficial tools for implementing personalized learning because of the ability to self-regulate, work at their own pace, take ownership of their learning, and providing students with voice and choice.

One way teachers can track down flexible educational resources is through the use of OERs or Online Educational Resources. OERs "are instructional and learning materials that can be found in the public domain"  (Bixler, 2021). These materials are ones that are not under copyright protection.  OERs that are high-quality can be utilized in the class and can save teachers from creating resources of their own, in addition, they can drive collaboration inside and outside of the classroom (George Lucas Educational Foundation, 2015). These are all the more reasons to utilize them in the classroom to help drive our students to be higher-level thinkers. With that being said, it is important for educators to properly the OERs they select to ensure that it meets the district/state standards and will positively impact students the way we want them to.
