Joshua
The book of Joshua is all about how the Israelites, under Joshua’s leadership, entered and took possession of the Promised Land (Canaan), just after the death of Moses.
Joshua is commissioned by God to lead.
The Israelites cross the Jordan River miraculously.
They set up camp and prepare spiritually for the battles ahead.
Chapters 6–12: Conquering the Land
Famous battles, like the fall of Jericho (walls come tumbling down).
Other key victories and defeats (like Ai).
The land is gradually conquered from various kings and tribes.
Chapters 13–22: Dividing the Land
The land is divided among the 12 tribes of Israel.
Special cities are set aside: cities of refuge, Levitical cities, etc.
Chapters 23–24: Joshua’s Final Words
Joshua gives a farewell speech reminding Israel to stay faithful to God.
He warns them not to follow other gods.
He renews the covenant and famously says:
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
