CJU 442 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ALTERNATIVE
In my professional development essay, I talked a lot about the importance of being an active change agent in the adolescent stages of life. Being present and showing up for children should start at a young age; making yourself available to them and being a strong, positive influence can make all the difference. Unfortunately, that isn't the case for a number of children. Because of the lack of emotional support and security, many children will act out to get the attention of their caregivers; this results in challenging behaviors.
CJU 442 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ALTERNATIVE II
Throughout this assignment, I explain the importance of being an active listener while working as a criminal justice professional. Without listening skills, it is almost impossible to achieve any goals; in order to be successful in this field we must keep in mind that in most of the situations we work in, people simply want to be heard. Interpreting and comprehending the requirements of others during a conversation is the skill of active listening. When it comes to resolving disputes and other issues, critical thinking is absolutely necessary. Criminal justice professionals need to be able to quickly assess a situation visually, mentally, and emotionally in order to have keen observational skills. Professionals need to be good at paying attention to the smallest but crucial details in order to be successful.
In my GSP Lifeplan Assignment, I spoke about my passion for becoming a successful change agent. In my vision, I am someone who displays empathy for all; hence, I believe in order to understand where different demographics come from, one must be open to understanding various perspectives of life. By doing so, all active chnage agents form constructive connections with those they will serve.
This assignment was so unique to me because I had the opportunity to explore an individual who is considered one of America's greatest leaders: Ronald Reagan. As an African American woman, Ronald Reagan wasn't a progressive or positive leader within my community because of the Crack Epidemic during the early 1980s. As a result of this epidemic, there were a great deal of black families affected by crack addictions, deaths, and drug-related crimes; these circumstances resulted in a further widened gap between social and economic division within inner cities throughout the United States. Throughout my essay, you will read more into Reagan's background and presidency as I further elaborate on the division he caused between American Citizens, as well as his accomplishments. This assignment hit home because I am a believer in justice and equality; unfortunately, African Americans are disproportionately represented in all aspects of life, especially in our Criminal Justice system.
LETTER OF REFERENCE- AKMED KHALIFA
Here is a letter from my mentor who guided me through most of my journey through elementary, middle, and high school. Because of his guidance, I am confident in myself and my future. Mr. Khalifa was always there cheering me on, and inspiring me to be better every day. He has helped me become a strong leader and effective problem solver.
LETTER OF REFERENCE- JASON MERENESS
During my time at CSP, there were many courses that I loved; however, CJU 487: Delinquent & Criminal Behavior Across Life spoke to me the most. Going into my career, my plan is to work with juvenile delinquents in the city of Minneapolis. I had the pleasure of being taught by Professor Jason Mereness who was an incredible educator. Professor Mereness was well informed; he enlightened me regarding the importance of showing up while being an active agent of change. Because of him, I discovered my passion within criminal justice.
