Community service is significant in my life. There are many factors that motivate me to help those in need in my neighborhood and surrounding area(s). First, I'd like to say that I am blessed beyond belief; hence, I am always in a position to help as many families as I can. The idea of helping others brings me so much joy, the feeling is indescribable. In my family, it is essential to help those around you no matter what position you're in. My grandmother, parents, aunts, and uncles always made sure that I knew the value in helping others out. We don't do what we do to look good, we do it because we genuinely want to help and put a smile on others' faces. The most important part of helping is that we never expect anything in return; we're simply here to help however we can. Now, as an adult, I hope to share these experiences with my children who will later do the same when they become of age.
Here at VEAP, I help assist families who may need extra food for their households. I box, I deliver, SMILE and most importantly, I build relationships with those in Hennepin County. Volunteering at VEAP makes me feel whole. There are many families within Hennepin County who could use a helping hand. This organization teaches me that we all face our own struggles, but we can overcome these if we continue to work together. I volunteer here at VEAP twice every other month.
Feed my Starving Children is something that's been around for years. It all started back in Elementary school! Throughout grade school, we often had field trips here at FMSC. I loved everything about volunteering here with friends and teachers. This company gave me a good understanding of what it means to help our brothers and sisters outside of the United States. Since then, I come here to volunteer as often as I can, generally when I have a free Saturday!
TREEHOUSE
At TreeHouse, I volunteer as a Support Group Assistant; in my position, I invest my time in the lives of the teenage girls who often feel lost, alone, and hopeless. I provide positive influence and guidance through one-on-one mentoring. As previously stated, I have a strong passion for being present in the lives of those who desire a strong influence. TreeHouse believes in creating safe places for teens who struggle to find a place to fit in. The overall goal is learning to be open and free through faith based practices. I have the opportunity to give my services one every other week.
