Hello, my name is HUANG Siqin, I am 23 years old, and I am very passionate about mathematics.
My initial interest in mathematics education came from my family, my father is a senior high school math teacher, which gave me a great passion for mathematics. I grew up enjoying exploring mathematical problems, looking for logical relationships in topics that were coupled together, from observation to conjecture to rigorous reasoning and argumentation. I was fascinated by the process of puzzling out these mathematical problems, and it prompted me to choose mathematics as my undergraduate major without hesitation and chose to continue studying maths at postgraduate level.
In my mind, mathematics education plays a vital role in forming my character and thinking, and it also developed my habit of rational thinking in a subtle way. I aspire to be a qualified mathematics teacher in the future not only because I can feel happiness in the process of teaching but also because I want to cultivate more students with the love for math and help them experience the beauty of math.
The digital classroom brings new learning styles and teaching tools to Mathematical education. The traditional model of mathematical education is often limited to teacher-led lectures and after-school assignments, making it difficult to accurately assess students' learning outcomes and progress.
The digital classroom, however, can make use of diverse learning methods and tools such as virtual reality technology and online interaction to enhance the fun and interactivity of mathematics education, encourage students to participate more actively in learning, and stimulate their interest in learning.
As for me, this class allowed me to learn about the materials that I was previously unfamiliar with or even never knew about, such as Miro, Google Classroom, Desmos, and Geogrbra. Through the use of these tools, we can transform the traditional classroom into a flipped classroom. We can put these materials online for students to learn by themselves before the lecture. Then, during the class, we can actively engage with the students through group discussions, collaborative cousework, etc.
In the midterm presentation, My groupmates and me tried to redesign a class using the materials we had learnt, and I found that it made an otherwise boring classroom come interesting. The topic our group chose was trigonometry. When I was in school, the only way I could learn trigonometry was to visualise the graphs in my textbook, but this was very abstract and not easy to understand. Nowadays, by using desmos, students can graph trigonometric functions on their own and can visualise the effect of different parameters on the trigonometric function image by setting the sliders. This makes learning trigonometry intuitive and fun!
I will continue to study these materials and apply it to my teaching afterwards, I believe it will improve my teaching efficiency and make my classroom more engaging!
In the blink of an eye,it's time to write my FINAL REFLECTION.
I've really benefited from 5511 over the past three and a half months. It was the first time I really understood and learned how to integrate technology and teaching in math class. With all the tools I have learnt, a seemingly boring maths lesson can come alive. I was even excited to share how useful the tools are with my dad, sinec he is also a math teacher.
In the future, I am going to teach math in a public high school in mainland china, but unfortunately, most of the public schools in mainland china are rarely able to provide their students with electronic devices in their regular classrooms, and they still use traditional teaching methods. Therefore, I am eager to take what I learnt in this class (innovative teaching methods) back to the school and put it into practice. First of all, the flipped classroom, which can motivate students and make them learn to think and explore actively. Secondly, geogebra, desmos and shiny apps will be a powerful tool for learning maths, as they can make some maths graphics and concepts more vividly presented to students.
Last but not least, thank you, Dr. Ku, for presenting us with those wonderful class, these times will be my precious memories. Secondly, I would also like to thank group6 from 5511, we have a high efficiency and perfect cooperation, we are all sooooo great!
