2025 BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR!
ARAPAHOE SPORTS NETWORK (ASN)
The Arapahoe Sports Network is a 100% student-led initiative at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado, dedicated to providing coverage of the school's athletic programs. The network's content includes live broadcasts of games, highlight reels, interviews, and coverage of special events, aiming to showcase the talents and achievements of Arapahoe's student-athletes and its surrounding community. By leveraging platforms like Instagram, ASN has successfully engaged a wide audience, promoting school spirit and community involvement.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN...
Starting something like the Arapahoe Sports Network (ASN) takes a ton of effort, but the impact it’s had on the school and it's community has been huge.
It all started back in the Spring of 2021 with an 8th grader who had a passion for sports, aerospace, and technology. My older brother was a high schooler, who played for the Arapahoe JV Soccer team. With Covid restrictions limiting spectators at sporting events, it made the games non-accessible for parents, students, and community. With my interest in technology and sports, I came up with the idea to live-stream the Boys and Girls Soccer games with my cell phone. I created a YouTube channel that I would post those streams to. As a joke, I called it the "Arapahoe Sports Network" (Having absolutely no idea it would turn into my lifelong passion and career).
Following the spring of 2021 and the beginning of my freshman year, I kept streaming Arapahoe's Soccer games. I had also bought some simple equipment to upgrade the streams and enhance the viewing experience. As the year progressed, I began expanding into broadcasting other sports. Focused on promoting Arapahoe High School’s athletes and events.
Instead of waiting for a class project or official school support, I just went for it—covering games, interviewing players, and making highlight reels. Promoting everything through Instagram, building a big following by consistently sharing high-quality content that people actually wanted to see.
Behind the scenes, this meant long hours—planning coverage, filming events, editing footage, and managing social media. It wasn’t just about showing up to games with a camera and some microphones. It took organization, creativity, and real dedication.
BUT THE RESULTS? TOTALLY WORTH IT.
For the students and community, ASN became the central hub for all things Arapahoe and Arapahoe Sports. It gave athletes a spotlight they might not have gotten otherwise. It also provided constructive feedback for teams who wanted to look back at film and clean up any mistakes that they may have had during a game. Parents, staff, and fans could follow along even if they couldn’t attend games, and the whole community felt more connected and proud of what ASN was doing.
Today, Arapahoe Sports Network is responsible for more than just broadcasting and social media content. In the fall of 2023 and 2024, the Littleton Public Schools District installed two state-of-the-art Daktronics LED video scoreboards for LPS's two stadiums. Because of this, the district to called upon ASN (me) to design, operate, and manage all of the graphics and content that would be played at Arapahoe, Heritage, and Littleton sporting events for both stadiums.
I built graphics packages for all three high schools, made a user friendly interface with the scoreboard's software, and wrote an easy to understand manual for game workers and volunteers, so they could easily run the scoreboards for when I am unable to be there. For some of the bigger games, ASN would use the video scoreboard to put on a "stadium show". Showcasing several cameras, slow-motion replay, fan-interactive games, and a in-stadium host. All to drastically improve the fan experience.

"What started as a project for my brother and his teammates, is now a highly respected broadcast production network that’s inspired other schools and students, showing what’s possible when you combine passion, media, and a strong school community."
THE EFFORTS BEHIND ASN → TODAY
Efforts Involved in Creating and Promoting ASN:
Conceptualization and Planning: Preparation and planning happens before the beginning of each season. We establish a "common broadcast plan", determining what we want to set as our standards in terms of how much effort and preparation we put into each broadcast. This determines the amount of commentators, cameras, types of graphics, etc... that we include in each broadcast. For example, with Basketball season, we get 30+ broadcasts between the Boys and Girls and a much smaller audience. That means there is more room for error, and making mistakes. Keeping in mind that there will be plenty of other oppertunities to get things right. Meanwhile with Football season, we only get up to 12 broadcasts, and a much larger audience. This means that we have to "pull out all of the stops" and have little to no room for error, with only having 12 opportunities to put on the best "show" possible.
Content Creation: After planning out our ideas for each season, we begin putting together graphics packages for our broadcasts and Instagram. This involves creating/designing our broadcast YouTube thumbnails, final score Instagram posts, and live broadcast graphics (scorebug, matchup, lower thirds, etc...).
Event Coverage: For our broadcasts, I write a document called a "rundown" AKA gameday script. This document goes through a rough timeline of everything that needs to happen/will happen before the start of a game. This helps gameday run significantly smoother for me and my crew. Take a look at some examples below!
Interviews: During our broadcasts, we like to conduct interviews on various coaches or players throughout the game who are making an impact or have important information. We also occasionally do postgame interviews with the winning team's fans, to increase the energy and the excitement of our broadcasts.
Promotion and Growth: ASN promotes itself through our Instagram! We post gameday graphics, hype videos, player spotlights, final score posts, and much more. These posts have helped give us a massive following from Arapahoe and its community.
Enhanced School Spirit/Community Engagement: Broadcasting sports and events on ASN has brought pride and excitement among students, staff, parents, and family members! Posts on our social media have been proven to increase attendance at games and unify our school at events that naturally get less attention.
Educational Opportunities: Students involved in ASN have gained hands-on experience in broadcasting, journalism, and digital media, giving them a well rounded broadcast journalism experience. It allows them to see what they like vs. what they don't like.
