2025 BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR!
During a live event at Englewood High School, I was introduced to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes at this neighboring high school. I dove into the program during my senior year and immersed myself in the multifaceted world of digital media and communication.
Through these CTE programs, I gained hands-on experience in various aspects of media production, including media literacy, podcasting, radio, and newscast production. Courses such as Audio/Video Production expanded my practical skills in visual design and publication. I also ramped up participation in student media organizations like the Colorado Student Media Association where I found additional opportunities to apply these skills in real-world settings.
My involvement in these programs allowed me to develop a further understanding of the broadcasting field. I learned to analyze media messages, an essential skill highlighted by the Colorado Department of Education's media literacy initiatives. This critical thinking, combined with technical proficiency, enabled me to improve my broadcasts and connect closer with my audience.
My journey shows how CTE pathways can empower students to explore and perform in their areas of interest. By using the resources and opportunities provided by these programs, I increased my broadcasting skills and positioned myself as a knowledgeable and innovative figure in the field.
PirateTV is the broadcast channel at Englewood High School. It hasn't always been easy to split my time between two schools, but it has been amazing working with students at EHS who want to learn from my skills and I have gained experience in other broadcast genres by spending each day at EHS.
To the left is a newscast I anchored. Going through the process of creating a newscast was different than a live event:
Deciding content
Stacking a show
Organizing staff for video and interviews
Updating graphics
Producing the show
