We have seen such big changes in the weather, daily! Please make sure tamariki are at school with named clothing, including jackets, so we can still be outside as much as possible.

Annual Plan: September - December 2026
Our new Strategic Plan sets out seven priorities for Lyall Bay School over the next three years. For the remainder of 2026, we are intentionally focusing on five of these priorities so that our actions are achievable and have a meaningful impact.
Our five focus areas are:
strengthening consistent approaches to wellbeing, behaviour, safety and belonging
making school communication clearer, more consistent and easier to access
helping whānau understand how Learning Through Play supports learning across the school
improving reporting so whānau have a clearer understanding of their child’s progress, strengths and next steps
strengthening academic pathways, targeted teaching, appropriate challenge and opportunities for extension and leadership.
The remaining two strategic priorities have not been forgotten. They remain part of our three-year Strategic Plan and will be addressed through future annual plans.
Progress on these five priorities will be monitored throughout Terms 3 and 4. What we learn from tamariki, whānau, staff and achievement information will help shape our Annual Implementation Plan for 2027.
Vision in Action
All our tamariki showed how they are living our Pou of Manaaki, Pākiki, and Hiranga at the Roller Disco last Saturday.
Thank you so much Friends (FoLBS) for putting on such a wonderful event.
Learning Conversations
Next week we have the opportunity for you to come in and kōrero about the learning that is happening for your tamaiti. You can book the conversations on the HERO app.
We have listened to you and worked to make sure you and your tamaiti get what you need from these conversations. The conversation blocks are 30 minutes long; this gives ample time for you to spend with your tamaiti and kōrero with kaiako. Some of you have expressed an interest in a private, 5-minute conversation about learning with kaiako as well. This is booked separately from the 30 min block, but will be within the 30 min timeframe.
If you wish to speak with kaiako about something other than learning, or you think it will take longer than 5 minutes, please email kaiako and arrange another time. Each kaiako email address is firstname.lastname@lyallbay.school.nz.
We are looking forward to sharing all the learning with you.
Attendance - Health
We continue to have a focus on attendance, but we do understand that there is a lot of sickness about. We have had many cases of influenza A as well as some tummy bugs. To keep our attendance up it is important that sickness is kept at home so it is not past on.
Here is a link form the Ministry that can help you decided whther tamariki should be at school or not. How to decide if a child is well enough to be at school or early learning - Ministry of Education
Please send ākonga to school if you are unsure, we will call you if they become unwell.
Friends update
Wordathon - a huge thank you to all those who have donated so far. No donation is too small. Whether it's $5, $20, or more, every contribution brings us one step closer to a new turf that our tamariki can enjoy for years to come.
To make donating easy, you can make a direct transfer to:
Friends of Lyall Bay School
Account: 12-3481-0009279-00
Cash donations can also be sent to school and given to your child's class teacher.
Friends of Lyall Bay next meeting is Tuesday 22 September, 7pm online
Many thanks to all those whanau who attended the annual Wheels Disco.
It was wonderful to see so many of our akonga and their whanau at this event. It had a great buzz with loads of smiling faces! Thanks to all those teachers who popped in on their Saturday night.
We need more helpers!
Friends of Lyall Bay School (FoLBS) is always looking for more members to work together to support the school. We do this by raising money for school projects and building a greater sense of community involvement in the school.
All parents and caregivers are most welcome to join the FoLBS. We meet monthly (mainly online) and everyone is invited to attend our meetings.
Lyall Bay Artists to feature in local art show:
The talent of artists at Lyall Bay School is beyond measure, and now they have a great opportunity to exhibit their art in Castomanic, a very special show at Rice Pudding Gallery, Newtown. The show runs from October 6-10 and we need volunteers to manage the gallery. It’s a chance for our tamariki to tell visitors about their artworks, see the fruits of their work, and connect with the other artists who participated in the show. We have an exhibition roster, so if you can spend 1 hour at the exhibition, let us know. It would be a great help, plus you will get to see the show!
