Lesson Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to...
Identify and summarize key points from an authentic informational article.
Collaboratively create an infographic with tips for engaging in ecotourism.
1. Warmer
The teacher will tell students that they will work in pairs and discuss:
“What impact do you think tourism has in a country? Is it positive, negative or both?"
Then, the teacher will ask students to use Padlet to post their answers, so that they can be shared in a class discussion.
2. Web
Activity: Reading Task (BBC Bitesize)
The teacher will ask students to read this BBC article about the impact of tourism and complete this task sheet:
3. What’s Next?
The teacher will ask students to go back to the Padlet and re-read their answers from the beginning of the class. Then, the teacher and students will engage in a class discussion. The teacher will ask students to contrast their opinions at the beginning of the lesson with the information shared on the article, and ask them "Were your initial opinions/thoughts correct? What new information did you learn from the article?"
As a wrap-up activity, students will create a concious tourism guide for teens using Canva. Students will create an infographic that includes: 3 dos and 3 don’ts for engaging in ecotourism. (The teacher will encourage students to browse through Canva templates and find the one that they like the most, end edit it if needed)
Then, these infographics will be posted on a Padlet, so that students can have a useful summary of the content learnt in the lesson.
Lesson 2
Level: B1
Title: “Cultures around the World”
Technological Resources: Mentimeter, National Geographic website & Google Sites
Lesson Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to...
Scan and select relevant cultural information from an authentic travel website.
Produce a short blog post showing information about another culture different from their own.
1. Warmer
The teacher will ask students "If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?" to activate the prior knowledge about places around the world. Students will be asked to post their ideas on a Mentimeter board. Then, the teacher and the students can engage in a discussion about what places were the most frequently mentioned.

Activity: The teacher will ask students to open the Travel section on the National Geographic website. Then, students will be asked to complete this task sheet:
3. What’s Next?
As a wrap-up activity, students will be asked to create a brief blog entry on a Google Sites website created by the teacher sharing some information about their chosen country/city (they can add multimedia resources like pictures or videos) To do this, students will use the information they gathered from the National Geographic article and from doing some quick research on the internet.
The rest of students can access this Google Sites website to learn more about a specific city/country from their classmate's blog entries.
