Lesson Plan
Level: Intermediate
Title: Present Simple
Technological Resources: Educaplay & Taskade
Objectives:
Identify the structure and rules of the Present Simple tense.
Use Present Simple correctly in affirmative and negative form.
Warm-up:
The teacher will write this sentence on the board: “She go to school every day.” and ask students: “Is this sentence correct? Why or why not?” Then, the teacher will have a brief class discussion to activate prior knowledge. After that, the teacher will explain that today’s focus is the Present Simple and they’ll practice using an online tool called Educaplay.
Task:
The teacher will quickly write the uses of the present simple (habits, routines, facts) and the structure for the affirmative and negative form on the board so that students can check them if needed when completing the activities.
Activity 1: Quiz with Audio
The teacher will give students access to a multiple-choice Educaplay exercise with audio instructions to support listening and comprehension. Students will work in pairs with one tablet/computer and complete the exercises while te teacher moves around the classroom to clarify when needed. Educaplay has a useful feature: the teacher dashboard. While moving around the classroom, the teacher could also use this feature to monitor live results and make sure that all students are participating.
Activity 2: Unscramble words
The teacher will ask students to put the word in the correct order to make correct Present Simple sentences by playing the Unscramble Words game on Educaplay. Students will work in pairs with one tablet/computer and complete the exercises while te teacher moves around the classroom to clarify when needed. While moving around the classroom, the teacher could also use the teacher dashboard to monitor live results and make sure that all students are participating.
Activity 3: Production
Each pair of students opens a shared Taskade workspace on their tablet or computer. The teacher shares a template (pre-prepared on Taskade) that includes a few sentence starters (for example: "He always..." or "They don't like...") and students will be expected to complete the prompts using the sentence starters. Then, the teacher will ask students to use Taskade AI’s Rewrite or Improve Writing feature to check their grammar and get suggestions. The benefits of using Taskade AI to correct students' sentences is that they can get more personalized feedback on the mistakes they're making. While students are working, the teacher moves around the room to assist with any confusion and encourages students to explain why a sentence is correct or incorrect.
Wrap-up:
The teacher will review the top 5 most commonly missed questions from the activities and write them on the board. Then, the teacher will ask students to come up to the board and correct the sentences with some help from their classmates.
