"SLAPS FOR MY DROP-TOP MINI-VAN" is Ski Mask The Slump God's fourth project and third EP, released originally on Soundcloud but was later put on other streaming services not including Apple Music. This EP contains 4 songs one of which being one of his first breakout tracks titled "LIKE A SOCCER MOM".
1) I DON'T CARE - By: Ski Mask The Slump God
2) LIKE A SOCCER MOM - By: Ski Mask The Slump God
3) DID YOU REALLY??? - By: Ski Mask The Slump God
4) DEATH IS LONG - By: Ski Mask The Slump God
The EP that marks Ski Mask's discography on larger streaming services starts off with a quick 49 second track that makes sense surrounding the entire theme of the EP and the theme of the song. The EP than proceeds to energetic track joking about soccer moms driving mini vans. The song than ends quickly after 1:50 seconds making you want more of the song. But right when you get energetic and want more of that style Ski Mask switches it up "DID YOU REALLY???" which is less energetic but still really funny. Than after another quick song clocking in at 1:30 the EP changes to it's last song titled "DEATH IS LONG". This song is another quick change, instead of a hype, funny, energetic track Ski brings a song that he contemplates death on for not even two minutes but somehow you get all you need to know about his perspective surrounding death. This EP goes from funny energetic tracks to thoughtful contemplation in just 6 minutes and it doesn't feel to short or to long. This EP is filled with funny lyrics and thought-filled bars in 6 minutes. A prime example of Ski's comedic bars on this EP is in the "They gon' think Ski popped a laxative/Or need some Pull-Ups, hoe I am the shit today, mm/My diamonds wet like some Gatorade (Bitch!)/It is the same percent water as Powerade, hm (Hoo!)/Swag on my back like a backpack/Need a paper towel, spilled sauce on my 'Preme rag, hm" but than in less than 3 minutes later he raps "Wait, mmh, rethink upon the mistakes, mmh/Death is long but worth the wait, mmh/Treat you like wishbone and break, mmh". Somehow Ski is able to have such a lyrical shift in such a short time without it sounding forced or unnecessary. The first and third track respectively act as almost bridges/introduction to a shift in ideas and Ski uses this to it's full potential throughout the EP. Something almost as impressive as the lyrical shift and structure is the production Ski picked for the album. There are four different producers who worked on this EP with Ski and each ones uses samples and bass to Ski's advantage. Personally I like the production on "LIKE A SOCCER MOM" done by RayAyy the most. But each song has such a different style of production that blends so well from song to song. Without the production from CaptainCrunch, RayAyy, Corey Lingo, and LanLord this EP wouldn't be as entertaining as it is. Ski pairs this amazing production with entertaining flows and deliveries. On "DEATH IS LONG" and "LIKE A SOCCER MOM" Ski uses the mmm flow which does get repetitive after many listens. Ski throughout this EP uses much differing deliveries for rap but he never really tries to go out of his comfort zone on this EP. So throughout this EP the flows and deliveries he uses are entertaining but they can get repetitive in some regards. The theme of this EP is songs you would listen to in a DROP-TOP MINI-VAN, and the songs he put on this EP fit perfectly with it. From fast rapping, bass bumping, car rattling tracks like "LIKE A SOCCER MOM" to thought provoking, figurative representations of death Ski gives the listeners a all around solid EP to bump in your mini van. If we take this project and compare it to his newer work this projects versatility lacks, but that's not far to compare an artists beginning work to their newer work because hopefully the artist is improving. But if we compare this EP to Ski's earlier projects and songs he does show improvement with versatility. Instead of just making trap bangers and bass breakers he creates work that is much more. He also switches up his delivery and flow enough throughout this EP it doesn't become repetitive. Personally the first couples listens I did not enjoy every track off this EP but as I grew as a person this EP grew on me and now I enjoy every track off this EP. My favorite is easily "LIKE A SOCCER MOM" but the other tracks on this project are so solid I can't pick a second best. Overall this EP is a good beginning to his mainstream discography contains some of his best earlier work. From conceptual songs to comedic tracks I will guarantee you I will be bumping this slaps in a car.
