I had some expectations for this album before it's release but Comethazine did not say much before he released it so I was prepared for anything. After listening to it twice I was really disappointed. This is Comethazine's studio album and three fourths of all songs on it seem like Bawskee 1 throwaways with better production. After Comethazine released Bawskee 3.5 I began to actually believe it could be a much better artist, but with Pandemic the only difference from all of his other work is each song is much much shorter. Most songs barely even reach the 2 minute mark. This isn't necesarally a bad thing but Comethazine uses the same formula on each song, a chorus that repeats once at the beginning, a verse, than a chorus that repeats twice at the end. If you don't believe me go check out the lyrics. The standout songs for me were "No Front", "Permanent", "LEAD THE RACE", and "Gallardo". When I began listening to the album the first three songs gave me hope that he might be bringing a different approach to his normal songs but around the 5th track you can tell that the rest of the album was going to be almost throwaways. From songs 4 to 11 they almost all blend together except for LEAD THE RACE. They all have the exact same song structure, lyrical topics, delivery, flow, and similar beats. One of my main criticisms is that he NEEDS features. His solo songs sound the best and he definitely seems like a singles artist but for the sake of his albums if he wants them to not be the exact same cookie cutter songs he has to add features. A feature on Nutted or Plottin' would improve the songs so much. Lyrically Comethazine devolves from Bawskee 3.5. In Bawskee 3.5 Comethazine used funny bars and entertaining lyrics to enhance the songs but in Pandemic it's almost like he forgot how to. He has clever bars and funny verses in songs like Permanent where the entire verse is somewhat funny with Disney jokes but also very entertaining bars about 2Pac and John F. Kennedy. Also in the song LEAD THE RACE Comethazine raps about his father which gives more background on Comethazine as a person which is very interesting to hear. On LEAD THE RACE Comethazine raps "W-w-wish I saw life through my pops' eyes, He was a real OG with mob ties, He even shot, stabbed and robbed guys, Participated in a lot of drive-bys". But Comethazine has a lot more generic Comethazine bars. They are very prevalent in Pitbull, Nutted, and Glide. But they can be found throughout the album in every song. He never really changes his topics and focuses on Guns, Violence, Drugs, Women, and sometimes other rappers. This really hurts some songs making them feel like cookie cutters of other songs. The production on this album is good but it blends together so much because of how simplistic some of it is. The production was handled by 5 producers over 12 songs which, instead of making each songs production feel different and unique, makes it blend together and doesn't give a unique feel to any song. 8 out of the 12 songs where made by the same producer which makes it feel copy and paste. I enjoy Div's production the most throughout the album because of the song Gallardo. I don't mind the short songs but it's almost like the producers use this as a excuse for the simplicity of the beats. Overall the production felt very similar on each song which did not help the songs feel different. The Delivery and Flow on this album are almost the exact same on each song. There isn't much to say about the flow and delivery other than he needs to change up his delivery quick because on this album he ran it into the ground. On Mama's Glizzy he uses the "mmm" flow, it's one of the most saturated flows and he really needs to stay away from it because it takes away from the song. There is no creativity on this album, by that I mean he doesn't explore any new sounds or have a concept for the album. This feels like a mixtape if anything because of the lack of theme or idea surrounding the project. This album has no versatility. He has almost the exact same production, flow, delivery, lyrics, and themes on every song. But he did have some clever bars which help the versatility in the album. I did not enjoy this album. I enjoyed the first three songs and there were a couple outliers after that I enjoyed, but overall I did not enjoy it. Overall this album felt like Bawskee 1 throwaways. A lot of cookie cutter songs and overall a generic project. In the future Comethazine should try to expand upon his topics, production, and deliveries.
