In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. Everyone went to their own town to register.
Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
He went there to register with Mary, who was promised to be married to him and was expecting a child.
Luke chapter 2 verses 1 to 7
Today migration is daily news, but often neglecting the reality that even people making perilous crossings in small boats are still human beings. Should we simply ignore the dire situations that many face, the trauma, the trafficking, or harassment experienced along the way?
Mary and her financé Joseph were required to migrate, and yet God seemed to be at work in this journey - fulfilling promises made a long time ago. Could God be at work in the journeys people make today?
In Lubbesthorpe we celebrate a rich diversity of people who have (or their parents have) travelled across the world for different reasons. Each bring a unique gift that benefits us all together.
Dear God - please bring comfort to all those around the world who find themselves moving to strange lands.
