Back in November of 2017 my wife wanted a new bigger travel trailer. I told her I need a bigger truck or more power. I got more power.
I had been searching on line for either superchargers or Turbo kits. I found the Edelbrock eForce for $8000 and others for a little cheaper. Turbo kits were about $6000 but I don't want a high reving truck I want a working truck, loads of torque down low.
I found out the GM recall dumped thousands of LSA blowers, engineered by Eaton, on the after market. But I was too late to the game. Units that were not rebuilt were going for $1200 to $2000 and then you had to rebuild it yourself. Earlier they were going for $400 - $800.
Then there was the issue with the belt to power the blower. a few companies made kits to retro fit the accessory drive to allow a longer belt. the 8 rib upgrades are too expensive.
Then I found Boost district. I contacted Rosh and he hooked me up for a sweet price.
I bought the truck kit.
The things the kits did come with are listed on Boost District and items you may need are listed on my website. The kit is always being updated You may not need everything I added and may not want some of it. There are so many versions of trucks and engines it would be difficult to cover everything.
All this is detailed on my instructional Web site LSA Silverado
Now this Kit adds 110 pounds of weight to the engine. I measured it. and it takes power to run the blower. Just keep that in mind.
Now Rosh was very informative and helpful during the installation except 1 time where he said he would review my installation because of a supposed vacuum leak. But that 1 time he never called or messaged. Shipping got messed up but that is on UPS.
The worst thing about this installation was the IAT break out harness. I was told this has been fixed, seems my oddball 2012 truck that was special order by the original owner. Just check the pin outs to be sure it is right for you.
Rosh offered to pay for the mistake.
BELT
With no clue about how long a 6 rib belt I needed I had to figure it out. I clamped a wire to a pulley and run the path. and I have gone through 8 belts and it still isn't quite right but it works fine.
A tensioner with more travel is needed. or one with higher spring tension, or an additional idler under the tensioner.
Other problems I had was the (2) bolt down vacuum ports on the blower. I purchased blank off from LSX on ebay for $16 but I still needed to connect the EVAP line. I used 1 blank off on the secondary MAP port and had to make a port for the EVAP line. don't used the secondary MAP port for anything, it sees boost and will blow out the fitting, I learned the hard way.
Tuning - GO LOCAL email is too damn slow, for me $600 to $1000 for a local dyno tune would have been worth it over waiting a week between email responses and updates.
If I would have gone down to Chuck's Speed and RV all these little problems would have been worked out in a day or 2 instead of 2-3 months and still waiting.
Would I do it again? YES definitely. My truck went from 9.2 seconds 0-60 to 5.2 seconds.
I am still in the tuning stages and the 1st time I towed the new 7000 pound camper was shitty but I am sure that will work out.
Would I but from Boost District again? Hell yea. I worked till 3 or 4 in the morning on this project and Rosh was there for me.
Would I buy an email tune again? NO, find a local dyno tuner who will drive on the road and get the tune the way you want it. Local can email updates to you and can touch, see and here your engine. I have to make videos so my tuner can see the stumble and hesitations I had and so he can see the wide band AF meter.
I went with the blower setup for gobbs more usable power under the curve torque. If I was racing then I would be shooting nitro into to a pair of massive turbos like Cleatus McFarland in his naked corvette.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. My stock 5.3 with 65K can only get better. Methanol water injection, cam, heads, headers etc. I have not had this much fun since i was racing a ford pinto on a dirt track as a kid.
