A comprehensive process to prepare students for career transition is in place. Students are given co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities that support career goals. Students are supported and recognized by staff.
All students will learn the basics of the roles and responsibilities of first responders. They study current laws that apply to the industry. They do collaborative projects that help further their understanding.
Throughout the pathway the students attend many industry field trips where they get to have hands on experience in different areas of law enforcement.

They also have a variety of guest speakers visit their classes.
Criminal Justice (year 1)- Introduces students to both theory and hands-on experience in law enforcement occupations.
Forensic Science (year 2)- Teaches students theory and hands-on experience in Forensic Science occupations.
Public Safety (optional year 3)- introduces students to basic cybersecurity concepts and inspire interest in cybersecurity career.
Dispatching (year 3 or 4)- Prepares and trains students for a career in Dispatching.
All Students at La Puente High School have a one on one meeting with their counselor every year. Counselors review grades, credits, graduation status, College & Career Indicator, and progress. If a student is behind on credits a plan to catch them up is made at that time. Students who are behind on credits can attend summer school or participate in our APEX credit recovery classes to make up credits.
All 9th - 11th graders were given a presentation on the College & Career Indicator so they can determine their own personal College & Career Readiness goals.

The LPHS Public Safety has just established a chapter for SkillsUSA. 2025 Will be their first year participating. They will be attending to preview competition and prepare to compete in 2026. They will be competing in the Public Safety competition (Crime Scene Investigation)
Students are made aware career opportunities offered in the community
La Puente High School Public Safety students are made aware of career opportunities offered in the community.
They are able to visit 911 call centers and shadow 911 dispatchers.
They visit the local Sheriff office.
They visit a courtroom and observe a court case as it's happening to learn about different roles in the courts.
Projections for 2025-2026 School Year:
CERT students will participate in the school's safety committee to help plan for emergencies.
Students will have responsibilities at school disaster drills and other events to ensure safety.

Students have opportunity to join NTHS if they qualify
CTE Pathway students attend a banquet to celebrate their accomplishments at the end of the year.
CTE Completes are given a cord to wear at graduation.
CTE Ambassadors are given a sash to wear.
