Jolie V. Williamson joined leaders, advocates, and community partners for today’s meeting of the Council on Children of Incarcerated Parents. Together, we discussed strategies, shared insights, and planned actionable steps to support children and families affected by parental incarceration.

April 9, 2025, the Council on the Children of Incarcerated Parents and Caregivers (CIP) Council held its first meeting, launching efforts to support children and families affected by incarceration. Members discussed plans for a virtual graduation for the Parenting from Prison program, the development of a new curriculum to strengthen family bonds, and an informational resource booklet. The group also began shaping the Council’s goals and mission.

2025 Members
Renee Carthan:
Three individuals, representative of the various regions of the state, whose parents or caregivers are or were incarcerated when the individuals were minors.
Naiya Jones:
Three individuals, representative of the various regions of the state, whose parents or caregivers are or were incarcerated when the individuals were minors.
Troynyah F. Hankton:
Three individuals, representative of the various regions of the state, whose parents or caregivers are or were incarcerated when the individuals were minors.
Troy Hankton:
One person who is a formerly incarcerated parent or caregiver.

Jonathan Vinning:

Tina Dennis Darensbourg:
One representative of the Louisiana Public Defender Board appointed by the state public defender or the representative's designee.
Penny Douciere:
One representative of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association appointed by the president of the association or the representative's designee.
Lauren Meher:
One representative of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association appointed by the president of the association or the representative's designee.
